What We Believe

How we work together

The Work

Multi-faceted, anti-silo

While we each have areas of strength or specialization, we also expect everyone to develop a working understanding of diverse media and tools so we can better support clients.

Everyone works across multiple clients, projects, and formats, on a growth path toward greater management responsibility.

The Team

Remote, but not alone

We’ve been remote and across time zones for most of our history. That only works with intentional, proactive communication and a generous, supportive team. We trust our people to manage their time and expect everyone to show up for each other. Whether it’s a quick question, a shared screen, or a brainstorming session, our team is quick to help each other through challenges and improve ideas before they become deliverables.

The Growth

Feedback is everything

As an instructional design company, we expect continual learning of ourselves. That means giving thoughtful feedback and being open to receiving it.

Revision is part of the process, not a sign of failure. We believe clear, direct feedback is one of the best ways to support each other, and we invest the time to explain not just what could be improved, but why it matters.

The people who do their best work here

We love working with people who are curious, self-aware, and genuinely interested in the craft of what they make. People who are comfortable saying, “I’m not sure yet,” and then go figure it out. People who care about the people they’re designing for, not just the deliverable.

We’re family-owned in the truest sense – Sarah and KC founded BLS in 2012, and the company has grown alongside their family ever since. This shapes how we hire and how we view our people. We don’t view roles as disposable, but instead think long-term about our team and our clients. We try to enable flexibility for the lives of our team members in recognition of the reality of life and to encourage a good work-life balance.

Because we hire thoughtfully, most people start with us on a 3–6 month project-based agreement built around existing work. During that time you’ll get regular feedback, support, and a structured review at the end. From there — depending on the work coming in and how things are going on both sides — we decide together whether it makes sense to continue into a longer-term role. We try to be honest about this up front, because we’d rather the path be clear than feel like a surprise.

If reading this made you think yes, that’s the kind of place I want to bewe’d love to hear from you.
